“Ein Sturm kommt auf”

I’ve known the folks from the Topology of Technology research group in Darmstadt since a conference on Environmental History. For their latest publication, they invited me to submit an article touching upon the subjects of technology, power & space, and I wrote a rather experimental piece on ‘catastrophic space’. It’s an attempt to re-think ‘disaster’ as – on the one hand – a deliberate speech act (a current state of things is declared by someone as being a disaster, with all the social and political consequences) and, on the other hand, as a spatial denomination of a strange, transitory state, following Foucault’s concept of the heterotopias (think ruins, but also think: the ruins of Chernobyl).
